100 Characters in the Bible Material

The Bible is a treasure for believers, full of everything we need in order to live a full and meaningful life. As true disciples of Jesus, we want to know His Word and live it out in our daily lives. But there is one thing that we can easily see, which is that the teachings of the Bible often go against the way we think as humans. The truth in God’s Word challenges us to obey and to change our ways. We need to realize that we must change to fit the Bible; The Bible cannot be lightly applied according to how we see fit in our lives.

So when facing pressure, confusion, turmoil, and struggle, in order to live with God’s Word, each of us needs to obtain, learn from, explore, and hold fast to the Word of truth. This is our spiritual food that nourishes us every day. We are no longer spiritual “newborns”. We should desire to mature and grow firm in the faith. “Maturity is a process, not a destination. Progressing towards God every day is the desire and goal of those who follow Him”. In part 1 of “100 Characters in the Bible”, we will go over some notable characters that the Bible records during the age of theocracy. This is the inception of the world, from the first two humans to be created, more and more people were born, filling the earth. They formed small communities, which grew into larger groups and eventually into distinct people groups. It’s called the age of theocracy because from Adam and Eve until the time of Samuel, God’s people relied entirely on God’s direction. They hadn’t yet come together as a country or had a king over them. As we learn more about this time, we will see more clearly God’s authority over history and about His everlasting love as He foretells the coming of the Messiah.

In Part 2 of “100 Characters in the Bible”, we will delve into remarkable figures from the period that the Bible records as the monarchy. This was a period where Israel’s prosperity and decline were significantly shaped by their kings’ faith, ways of life, and leadership. Those were the very same kings the Israelites demanded to have so that they could be like the nations around them. We also have to talk about the prophets who appeared in this period. They were anointed by God to declare many messages of warning and love to the people. They were messages for building up and for tearing down. As we learn about this period, we will see clearly how God demonstrates His righteousness and love.

In this part 3 of “100 Characters in the Bible”, we will study prominent figures recorded in the New Testament period, from Zechariah to Christians – those who belong to Christ. This period documents the appearance of the Messiah foretold in the Old Testament. Jesus was born and accomplished the work of saving mankind through His death on the cross. The Son of God became human so that humans could become children of God – Christians. By exploring this period, we will clearly see the focal point of the Gospel – the redemptive plan carried out through Jesus and the plan to establish and use the Church to proclaim the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
