Waiting isn’t often very exciting or fun. Waiting for God to respond or to act can be challenging for Christians, as we have to be dependent on His perfect timing. We usually want everything to happen according to our own timetable and our own plans that we set out, but God doesn’t move according to our schedule. He has His perfect purpose and timing for all things. Waiting means hoping, trusting, and looking forward to the good things that will come. It requires faith, patience, humility, and endurance. It often takes a lot of time and forces us to wrestle with invading thoughts in order to maintain a state of trust. Waiting challenges us to overcome negative emotions, but all time spent waiting in God’s will is always worth the wait!
After 25 years of waiting, Abraham joyfully embraced Isaac, the fulfillment of God’s promise, at the age of 100. Joseph waited 17 years through difficulties to see his dreams fulfilled. During the 400 years of silence in Jewish history, the devout awaited the Messiah with unwavering faith. And He truly did come to those who waited steadfastly. Zechariah and Elizabeth, Joseph and Mary, Simeon and Anna… all of them witnessed the moment the LORD came to visit His people. Simeon declared, “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation” (Luke 2:29-30).
We wait for God, but the Bible also writes that “Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!” (Isaiah 30:18). God is also waiting for the right time that He has planned to bless us with good things according to His will. Waiting in God’s will is always worth the wait!
