SUPA is an abbreviation of Scripture Union Primary Age, a camp for children 9 and under. SUPA Camp has been organized in many different countries where SU operates, and among those are Malaysia and Singapore.
Every year, SU Vietnam offers children that have the ability to converse in English the opportunity to attend a 5-day SUPA camp organized in these two countries. Attending camp along with them are many English teachers and teaching assistants to help guide, support, and watch over them. Each camp is a fresh new playing field for our children to study, learn, play, and joke around in a second language. Notably, this camp provides them the opportunity to make many new friends from different countries. Both countries have a different way of running the camp, but all of them provide memorable spiritual lessons.
The SUPA camp in Singapore is organized very methodically, which aims to instill order and discipline in their attendees. They help build up teams through indoor games and activities. Every morning they wake up and are led in a time of reflection, reading the Bible before breakfast to help them set up the habit of prioritizing seeking God before all else. The talent show is always a very exciting time because of the fact that that is where our children’s creativity and abilities shine through. Every camp is organized sometime around the end of the year and always attracts approximately 100 children in attendance.
In Malaysia during the months of April and May, aside from the time spent studying at home, the SUPA camp is usually organized with activities at camping/picnic sites. The children are allowed to take part in activities, play, and read the Bible surrounded by nature, spending time fully enjoying God’s wonderful creation. They are divided into groups under the guidance and observation of their group leader to discuss, play, and serve with each other.
SU hopes that these experiences of being taught profound lessons on God and the Bible, though new and exciting, won’t be forgotten and will help our children understand more about God, love Him more, and help them grow and mature.
